Find Out How a Former Pilot and Strategy Consultant to the White House Went From Helping Big Business to Helping Entrepreneurs Thrive and Earn Income Online
A very warm welcome to my personal website. If you are anything like me ‘you love internet marketing and making money.’ I’ll explain how I’ve combined the two to make my life of as an entrepreneur a reality. But first of all let me tell you a little about myself.
The reason I started this business was because I wanted a change from traveling over 200 days a year and always being at somebody else’s beck and call. I was fed up with the uncertainty of the aviation industry and wanted to be able to creatively contribute in a way that felt rewarding while helping others.
I created this site because I wanted to meet and network with other entrepreneurs in the same situation as you and help and inspire them to discover a better alternative just like I did.
I live in the DC area of the USA with my beautiful wife and our three fantastic boys. We spend a great deal of the year shuttling between various soccer games and practices; fortunately we’re avid fans of both the game and our boys! We’re also passionate travelers and have lived in several states and countries.
We’re trying to raise conscientious citizens of the world who are compassionate and feel free and compelled to pursue their dreams and visions. We involve the boys in our charities and all work together to help feed the homeless, bring holiday cheer to those in distress, and help repair homes for those unable to do so.
I spent a decade in the United States Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator (pilot), supply and logistics officer, operations and maintenance officer, etc. We lived in Japan for three years and I was fortunate to see much of the Pacific. My last three years in the Marines were spent here in DC on the Staff of the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
I transitioned to civilian life and into the aviation industry, where the 200+ days of travel began. After six years, it was time for a change. I knew I wanted to work in strategy and marketing and also be an entrepreneur. I went to business school at Duke University and graduated with an MBA and the idea to start this company.
For the first several years I worked as a consultant to multi-billion dollar corporations helping them improve their strategy and execution and also supported government clients, including providing strategy consulting to the White House. I loved the work, but the results were frustrating. I called it “dusty binder syndrome.” At the end of a project I would turn in a report and recommendations, receive accolades and the watch the binder find a home on their shelf next to all the other binders.
Then it struck me – I could combine my love for strategy, marketing and being an entrepreneur while helping other entrepreneurs. If you’re like me, when you set out on your own you could find precious little in the way of guidance, information, or steps to follow to be a success small business owner. I found lots of information and books, but much of it seemed to be written by people who were writing books because they couldn’t figure out how to make their businesses work!
I decided to remedy this gap in information and knowledge that was keeping many entrepreneurs with great ideas and skills from succeeding. I began translating my hard won knowledge on business, strategy, marketing, planning, sales, etc. into a system that was stripped down, lean and ready for entrepreneurs. I then began coaching small business owners through a four step process of: Differentiation – Business Models – Planning – Marketing/Sales. It worked great and has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs “wrap” a business around their skills.
My sole complaint about my system was in Internet marketing and sales. The Internet is the most powerful marketing tool available to entrepreneurs, but while the concept of using it is clear, the execution is muddy. I ran into building web sites, different types of pages, SEO (search engine optimization), blogs, social media, video marketing, traffic, conversions, sales, autoresponders, and so on!
I spent six years figuring it out and while I could generate traffic, closing sales was much more difficult. In the end, I had a complex flow of steps that would work, but I was concerned that once my time working with a client ended, they might lose the ability to keep it going.
Then I had a timely introduction to Chris Windley (http://bit.ly/PrfOZy) and while we were discussing our backgrounds and I told the story about Internet marketing and my six year quest, he jumped in and mentioned that his search lasted eight years! We’ve joined with Chris Butler to form Centripetal Network Consulting and have developed a Digital Marketing Ecosystem with a custom dashboard that emphasizes Return on Marketing Effort (RoME).
